Left Australian Citizenship Exam Undergoes Major Changes Right

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) of Australia recently announced changes made to its citizenship exam.

By mid October of 2009, immigrants who wish to become Australian citizens will be sitting on a new citizenship exam. The new citizenship exam will contain test questions written in simple and plain English. Unlike in previous exams, mandatory questions will no longer be included.

The Australian citizenship exam is required before being granted an Australian citizenship. It tests the immigrants’ knowledge about Australia and the laws and privileges involved in the citizenship. The exam also gauges the capacity of the immigrants to understand at least a basic level of English.

With the increase of the pass mark from 60% to 75%, the exam does not appear to have become easier. The new exam is deemed to be based on the Pledge of Commitment that new citizens make upon achieving Australian citizenship. Copies of test questions from the new exam are strictly confidential. Immigrants who will be taking the exam by October will need to refer to the revised citizenship test resource book which will be made available to the public by mid September of 2009.

People who have already passed previous citizenship exams no longer need to sit on the revised exam. The exam will be held on the same testing sites as with the previous exams. Should the examinees need assistance with using the computer or should they need someone to read the questions to them, the DIAC is willing to accommodate such requests. The examinees needing special assistance will need to express their requests during the time they are booking for the exam.

Australian Citizenship Test Practice Questions review guide published by Red Squirrel Publishing has helped thousands of immigrants to legally achieve Australian citizenship. The practice questions in the review guide thoroughly prepare the examinees for the actual computer-based exam. With good review materials and strong focus, immigrants can attain passing grades and become full-fledged Australian citizens.
