The Federal Senate in Australia has approved the legislation required to implement the Australian Citizenship Test.In its last session before the federal election the Senate has approved the Australian Citizenship Amendment (Citizenship Testing) Bill 2007. The bill now returns to the lower house of parliament for final approval. The bill was passed with some minor amendments but there is little change to the original proposals submitted by the Government for approval. It is being reported that the resource book for the test will be finalized in the next ten days. The book is currently being consulted on. This process is being led and managed by the Minister of Immigration and Citizenship, Kevin Andrews.
The Government has never committed to a definite implementation date for the test but it is understood that the test is expected to be implemented on 1 October 2007.
